- The name of my animal is a meerkat. A meerkat is a mammal. It lives in Africa. It's brown and it has fur. It is medium sized. Meerkats eat worms, crickets, grasshoppers, small rodents, lizards, small snakes, birds, eggs, fruit, and ant larvae. Their predators are large birds, eagles, large snakes, and hyenas. An adult meerkat weighs about 50 pounds. A baby meerkat weighs 2 pounds. A meerkat gives birth to 4 to 7 babies a year. Meerkats live in underground colonies of up to 30 meerkats. A meerkat is also called a suricate . Meerkats only leave their burrow during the day . When a meerkat is a baby, its about 1-4 inches tall. An adult meerkat can grow up to seven feet. Meerkats teeth can grow to about a half an inch. Meerkats are charismatic mongooses that live throughout southern Africa. Meerkats that live with 2 or 3 families are called mobs. When meerkats wake up early in the morning they leave their borrow to sunbathe before heading out for the day. Meerkats are also called pupils. Meerkats like to chill on a cool rock showing their stomachs to the sky in the heat of midday. Meerkats are very good diggers. They can dig up to 12 feet. They eat lady bugs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. When meerkats are born they are born hairless. They are born hairless because there moms eat too much and it cuts their fur off.
